Care and Warranty
To maintain the beauty and longevity of your custom cabinetry, please follow these care instructions:
Cleaning Tips
Regular Dusting: Use a soft, dry microfiber cloth to remove dust and debris.
Gentle Cleaning: For everyday cleaning, use a damp microfibre cloth with mild dish soap diluted in water. Wipe gently and dry immediately with a clean, dry cloth to prevent moisture damage.
Avoid Excessive Moisture: Do not allow water or other liquids to sit on cabinet surfaces for extended periods. Always wipe up spills immediately.
What to Avoid
No Full-Strength Cleaners: Do not use all-purpose cleaners, degreasers, or other harsh cleaning products. These can damage the finish and void your warranty.
No Abrasive Materials: Avoid using steel wool, scouring pads, or abrasive cleaners that can scratch or dull the surface.
No Direct Sunlight: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause discolouration. Use window coverings to protect cabinets in brightly lit areas.
Hardware Maintenance
Regularly tighten screws on hardware to ensure they remain secure.
Clean hardware with a damp cloth and mild soap, drying thoroughly afterward.
Warranty
We warrant to the original consumer purchaser of our products that, for as long as they own their home where our products are initially installed, our products will be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal home use and service at the original site of installation. This warranty is only applicable to our products used in residential applications within Ontario and is not transferable to subsequent owners. Our obligation under this warranty shall be limited to the repair or replacement of any part or parts of our products which may prove to be defective under normal home use and service within the warranty periods, and which our examination shall disclose to our satisfaction to be defective.
Our obligation under this warranty or otherwise with respect to the products supplied by Cox Patterson Home Cabinetry is subject to our having been provided a reasonable opportunity to inspect and repair or replace the alleged defective products or workmanship.
Cabinet Finishes: Cabinet finishes and surfaces will naturally deteriorate over time as a result of normal use. Finishes may also change colour and texture over time due to sunlight or other light exposure. This warranty does not apply to the natural mellowing and aging of wood products due to photodegradation, which may affect the finished appearance of woods and finishes. In the event of repairs or replacement needed, we cannot guarantee that the colour and finish of the replacement materials will exactly match the colour and finish of the original. This is due to the changes that occur in the finish’s natural aging process and the dye lots in paints and stains. Repair or replacement is restricted to Cox Patterson Home Cabinetry current product offering (available styles, finishes, materials, construction, etc.) available at the time of the warranty claim.
Cabinet Doors, Drawer Fronts and Gables: The cabinet doors are warranted against reasonable warpage and cracking of the joints up to one year from installation. “Reasonable warpage” is considered to be less than 0.6% of the dimension, width or height. For example a 36” high door could have a warpage of 7/32” or less. Doors, drawer fronts and gables exceeding 45” in any dimension and/or exceeding 7 square feet in total area are not covered by any warranty against warpage. For all jointed drawers, drawer fronts and gables, due to expansion and contraction of solid wood and wood composite products, slight cracking or gaps may appear at joints and is to be expected. Cracks appearing in the first year in excess of 1/16” (1.5mm) will be considered a warranty item to be repaired or replaced at our discretion.
Drawer Systems: Drawer slides may loosen or tighten over time, but should still allow an average person to be able to use them with a reasonable amount of effort. At our discretion, we will repair or replace any parts of a drawer system that require excessive effort to open or close. Drawers are designed to hold 15 lbs per square foot evenly distributed, up to a maximum of 75lbs including the weight of the drawer. Excessive loading and/or uneven weight distribution may cause failure of parts of the drawer system that would not be covered by warranty.
Hinges Systems: Hinges can loosen or tighten over time but should still remain usable with reasonable effort by an average person. At our discretion, we will repair or replace any parts of a hinge system that require excessive effort to open or close. Binding or failure of hinges due to non-warrantied warpage of doors or drawers is not covered.
Cabinet Fittings: Cabinet fittings supplied by Cox Patterson Home Cabinetry but not manufactured by us (for example, handles and knobs, recycling and garbage pull-outs, lazy susan mechanisms) are limited to the manufacturer’s terms, conditions and warranty.
Shelving: Our adjustable shelving is rated to 15 lbs per square foot, evenly distributed. For adjustable shelving over 30” wide we add a row of adjustable shelf pin holes in the centre of the back wall of the cabinet to maintain shelf integrity. As we cannot control how shelves will be loaded, we do not warrant our shelves or the clips against shelf sag or failure. We recommend for best results keeping heavier items away from the shelf centre where it is more likely to sag.
Further Limitations:
Damage to cabinets or finishes caused by other trades and sub trades after the installation of the cabinets is not covered by this warranty.
Repairs or adjustments needed due to the seasonal natural expansion and contraction of the home structure are not covered by this warranty.
This warranty does not cover countertops, appliances, plumbing fixtures, or any other products that are not manufactured and supplied by Cox Patterson Home Cabinetry.
Labour incurred in removing or installing our products is covered for a limited period of 2 years after installation.
This warranty shall not apply to the effects of normal wear and tear or any product or part thereof which has been subject to accident, alteration, acts of God, abuse, misuse, improper installation, improper storage, excessive exposure to direct sunlight, exposure to moisture or exposure to extreme temperatures.
This warranty shall not apply to effects of proximity or exposure to appliances/devices that emit heat and/or steam. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, we make no warranty whatsoever with respect to accessories or parts not supplied or manufactured by us. Cox Patterson Home Cabinetry shall not be responsible for any indirect, consequential or any other form of damage or loss which is not expressly and specifically covered by this Warranty.
